Abstract :
This paper presents the operation of full duplex bi-directional Er doped fiber amplifier (B-EDFA) developed on a common erbium doped fiber. The approach of employing a single EDF is in contrast to the conventional B-EDFA which uses two separate EDF system. The general behavior of this system was found to be consistent with the conventional unidirectional EDFA. The experimental results show that the gain, output power and amplified spontaneous emission level increase while the noise figure decrease as the pump power increased. The study has also been conducted for both configurations; counter and co propagation which give a gain up to 24.14 dB and 24.9 dB respectively at the optimum pump power
