  • Abstract
A tutorial review of the use of quartz crystals as frequency controlling elements in oscillator circuits is given. The high Q factor of quartz resonators, their high equivalent inductance, and their intrinsic stability are identified as the key reasons for their widespread use in oscillator circuits. The conventional equivalent circuit of the resonator is discussed, along with its limitations as a description of the electromechanical device which it represents
