Abstract
Although aluminium alloy conductors have been available for some 60 years, it is only in recent years that they have been used to any great extent in the UK for voltages of 132 kV and above. Aluminium alloys are those based on the aluminium-magnesium-silicon system, internationally designated as 6201 and 6101A. The metallurgy of the aluminium-magnesium-silicon system, as exploited by the conductor manufacturer, is described together with methods of manufacture, advantages and developments such as improved conductivity
