Abstract :
Traditionally, the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) Ireland, used open wire low voltage lines. The phased introduction of low voltage bundled conductor lines commenced in 1981. They are now standard construction in the ESB. The authors detail the development and introduction of low voltage bundled networks and the significant economies which have accrued. The qualitative aspects, including safety, maintenance, aesthetics and live line working are also discussed. The authors place emphasis on the integration of the new system with the conventional approach and its performance over the initial seven year period
