Abstract :
Current information technologies favor health care services delivery in the home. Computer and telecommunication tools account for the fast growth of home health care via telemedicine in recent years. The medical and technological requirements for effective telehomecare programs in Latin America subordinate to the culture of its people. Demographic data is used to illustrate the social and economic situation in Latin America. Barriers as well as advantages of successful home care programs in the region are presented. The main issues are analyzed within the changes needed for the implementation of telemedicine projects
