Abstract :
The construction of high-voltage overhead lines is becoming increasingly difficult, due to the growing awareness of the population to their environment. For this reason planners and authorisation agencies try to limit the visual impact on the landscape by selecting a suitable right-of-way. In the past with the absence of engineering methods to evaluate the visibility of the right-of-way, decisions had to be taken by subjective and qualitative criteria. The authors present the realistic representation of overhead lines in the landscape on a color-graphic-display supported by 3D-computer graphics package, 3DOG. The quantitative evaluation of the visibility of the planned right-of-way is also shown using a new algorithm of image processing
