Abstract :
A characterization of a phase modulated coherent optical OFDM system based on Hartley transform is performed. The use of phase modulation minimizes OFDM amplitude fluctuations, resulting in reduced peak-to-average power ratio. Also, it is based on Hartley transform for simplifying the signal processing. In this paper, theoretical models are developed for describing the behavior of the system when it is limited by the receiver sensitivity and when optical amplification noise is dominating. For both cases, the resulting models are validated by means of extensive simulations.
