Abstract :
A Love-type SAW (surface acoustic wave) resonator comprising an Au-electrode IDT (interdigital transducer) on a rotated Y-cut LiNbO3 substrate has been developed. This resonator can be made very small in size and extremely broad in bandwidth. Spurious responses of the resonator resulting from longitudinal and transverse modes and the Rayleigh SAW were suppressed simultaneously without resonance Q degradation by the modified rhombus weighting of the IDT, and by the correct choice of the electrode thickness and rotation cut angle of the substrate. Applying the resonator to a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) circuit, a VCO with an exceedingly broad bandwidth and low power consumption was developed
