Abstract :
A distributed radio resource management (DRRM) scheme for DQDB MAN based microcellular personal communication services is proposed. The scheme combines both dynamic channel allocation (DCA) and adaptive power control (APC) and is well suited to packet switched transmission access of bursty user traffic. For its distributed control, the DRRM scheme utilises the connectionless transmission service of the DQDB MAN around which the microcellular network architecture is built. Under the DRRM control the system evolves as self-organising microcells, which means that no pre-planning of the cellular layout would be necessary. Performance of the proposed DRRM scheme is evaluated in terms of system capacity for speech traffic under stringent QoS requirement for frame loss. Results show that the system capacity is increased substantially for DRRM compared to FCA and constant-power DCA schemes
