Abstract :
In this work we infiltrate a photonic crustal membrane structure with N-isopropylacrylamide hydrogel. The refractive index change, in the hydrogel as it undergoes its volumetric phase change works, is used as a means to change the transmission properties of the PhC. We report a tunablity of 1.1 nm/degC and a two fold increase in transmission as the temperature crosses 34degC.
