Abstract
The fiber optic sensor system program is a US Navy research effort for developing a generic sensor technology; it has a wide variety of applications in weapon systems and is exploring the unique advantages of both phase- and intensity-modulated sensors. An overview is provided of fiber optic sensor technology and various multiplexing techniques for distributed fiber optic sensors. The application of this technology to intruder detection is also discussed
