Abstract
Proposes a new scheme for assembly representation and sequence planning. For assembly representation, the authors define an assembly system as a tuple of sets. Sequence plans are generated as graph structures. The generation algorithm of assembly sequences (assembly trees) can be implemented as either a forward or backward searching algorithm. The proposed approach will aid the production engineer to produce the “optimal” assembly plan
