Abstract
A conventional power-system stabilizer has some drawbacks such as the time-consuming tuning and non-optimal damping in the entire operating range. PI adaptive law in simple adaptive control (SAC) can overcome these drawbacks, but it can be only applied to the plants with almost strict positive realness and the computation of adaptive law is really complicated. A new improved SAC based on quadratic performance index was proposed and adopted to the design of power-system stabilizer. The simulation shows that this stabilizer can improve the dynamic and transient stability of the synchronous generator
