Abstract :
The development of a new 2 MVA series injection power quality device topology is described. This device is capable of solving a wide variety of power quality problems including dips, voltage harmonics, unbalance and flicker. It can also act as a UPS. When combined with a shunt power quality device, it is capable of solving most known power quality problems. A new series stacked power converter topology is introduced. This topology is particularly well suited to series injection power quality devices in the multi MVA power range. The topology makes use of standard power converter building blocks. No derating of the individual converters is required and bus voltages of several kVA can be obtained. As an added advantage, the quality of the output voltage waveform is improved significantly. The stability of the topology is analyzed and experimental results are given. Conceptually, the topology can be used to construct power converters with a power rating of 10 MVA operating from a 10 kV DC bus
