Abstract
The application of self tuning controllers as power system stabilizers in power system is considered. This paper presents an application of discrete self tuning controllers based on pole placement for damping electromechanical oscillations of power system. Controller design is mainly based on a discrete model using the delta operator δ which converges to a continuous model with decreased sampling period rather than the more usual shift operator. Simulation studies performed on a single-machine infinite-bus power system are presented. Results clearly show the benefits of the proposed adaptive controller for stability enhancement of power system especially where there is large change in operating point.
