Abstract
Recent progress in the development of the concept and technology of optical filters is reviewed with emphasis on integrated optical filters for wavelength division multiplexing WDM systems. Both the theoretical and practical aspects of the filter are considered. Different filter structures reported are explained briefly showing their state of the art in performance. The possibility of integration is of special interest in our discussion
