Abstract :
A new approach to nonlinear load modeling in the time domain has been developed. Laboratory testing of nonlinear loads have demonstrated that a steady state nonsinusoidal current is absorbed when a pure sine-wave voltage source is applied. Any distortion in the voltage source results in a dynamically changing or transient current response. The new nonlinear load model accommodates both the steady state and dynamic behavior. Implementation of the model in a simulation program and derivation of parameters of the model are shown. Finally a comparison of simulation and laboratory testing results for a fluorescent light and a desktop computer are presented
