Abstract
The high efficiency of ultrasonic shock treatment (UST) to reinforce the surface of weldments of structural heat-resistant and high-strength steels is shown. UST leads to fine grain microstructure at subsurface layer with depth of ∼0.2 mm. It was discovered that surface hardening is a cause of increasing the fatigue strength of weldments more than 1.5 times.
