Abstract :
With the drive to complete the single European market and the increasingly international nature of the electricity business, standards are becoming arguably more rather than less important, often mandated or backed-up by Directives or international agreements. In fact, the area of medium and high voltage switchgear for the electricity market has been for many years highly standardised, considerably more so than in a number of other plant areas. Because of this, not many brand-new switchgear standards are being written or proposed. However, due to a number of factors, there is a great deal of activity in the re-writing of, and additions to, existing main documents. This paper gives an overview in tabular form of what is happening now and significant events in the recent past. The focus is on medium and high-voltage switchgear, although some work is going on in the area of low voltage distribution boards and fusegear
