Abstract :
A case study of the design and performance of remote rendezvous, an interprocessor communication mechanism, is presented. Remote rendezvous extends the Ada rendezvous model to handle distributed communication. In many ways its semantics and implementations are similar to remote procedure call and send-receive-reply. The design is compared with that of similar systems. The major contribution of this work is a description of real design choices that trade space for reliability, real-time response, and ease of application evolution
