  • Abstract
A permanent magnet machine has been constructed which consists of a solid steel rotor with six magnets which are mounted radially but skewed. The rotor magnets are skewed with respect to the stator slots. In addition, the rotor is surrounded by a nonmagnetic conducting can made of inconel. This strengthens the rotor which otherwise has significant speed limitations due to centrifugal force. The effect of skewing the rotor magnets is ro reduce torque harmonics and noise-producing flux components. The effect of the rotor can is beneficial, in addition to increasing the operating speed of the machine. The solid canned rotor is very stable and easy to manufacture
