Abstract
The renewed importance of railways worldwide has stimulated a need for innovation applied to the system as a whole over a range of disciplines, and control engineering is one of the important disciplines for the industry. This paper summarises the possibilities of using advanced control in general, and discusses the opportunities and challenges for the railway vehicles in particular.
