Some contradictions in modern SF6 and vacuum switchgear applications

This paper explains some of the changes seen in medium voltage switchgear and suggests some reasons for the evolution which can only be driven by benefits to the customer. These benefits have led to improvements in safety levels for the operator and in some automation of operation. These benefits need to go hand in hand with reduced costs and the trade offs in these considerations are leading to some interesting trends in switchgear application
