A method to determine the lightning termination points using digital images

This paper provides a method to determine the common lightning termination locations over a fixed horizon, using a set of lightning photographs and South African Lightning Detection Network (SALDN) data. A single flash evaluation is provided, which demonstrates the general matching method. Thereafter, the method used to perform bulk image processing for determining preliminary lightning termination points over the horizon is presented. It is further expected to perform matching of these points with SALDN data to determine locations for common lightning terminations.
