Abstract :
There has been much academic interest in field-orientated induction motor drives. The major aim of the research described is to apply the rapidly evolving techniques of modern control theory, particularly parameter identification, to such drives. Another aim is to advance the practical application of such schemes as have been developed, both here and elsewhere. To this practical end a comprehensive 32 bit microprocessor based data acquisition, computation and control system is being developed. This unit, with floating point coprocessor and hard disk, is based on a VMEbus rack system and has ample space for expansion to implement any likely future identification, measurement or control scheme. Machine drive is via a PWM inverter. The features of this novel system and test bed are described
