Abstract :
The switched reluctance motor is now widely recognised as an important class of machine, offering the potential for variable speed drive systems that are competitive with those based on the induction motor and other classical machine types. Here, the authors present a comparison of the design and performance of these two machines, which shows clearly the switched reluctance motor has much to offer in terms of performance advantage. It slightly exceeds the efficiency of the high-efficiency induction motor, and at the same time greatly excels it on all measures relating to specific output.
