  • Abstract
The paper recommends a mobile assisted look ahead handover protocol with a self position locating feature to be utilized primarily as a network layer protocol to enhance handover. The handover protocol has been designed to improve the quality of service primarily during handover operations. A preconceived optimal list of candidate parent base stations is generated by the mobile unit while also performing triangulation on the pilot/beacon channel signal. Redundancy is included to provide for a higher probability of handover success
