Abstract :
This paper presents mathematical models to approximate the spacing between the vehicles in a lane on a motorway and the distance between a fixed base station and the nearest vehicle when a data packet is transmitted. These models are optimized for different measured traffic conditions. The results are used to calculate the success probability for a test packet in the presence of interference from the same lane. The desired signal is Rice distributed; the interfering signals are Rayleigh distributed. The average received power depends on the distance between the base station and the vehicles and the receiver uses the capture effect. The derived formulae can be used in further calculations of the data traffic in mobile radio local area networks
