Title :
Motion compensated DATV bandwidth compression for HDTV
Author_Institution :
BBC Res. Dept., London, UK
Abstract :
The author describes the application of a motion vector measurement technique, developed by the BBC, to improve the bandwidth reduction system adopted for the Eureka 1988 demonstration chain. The system measures the speed and direction of motion in the source scene and uses this information to perform motion compensated interpolation. This approach allows the full static and dynamic resolution available from a fully matured HDTV source to be transmitted with no loss of subjective quality
