Abstract :
Hybrid-mode analysis is carried out for coplanar waveguide applicable to Z-cut Ti: LiNbO/sub 3/ optical modulators with a ridge structure. The analysis is based on the integral equations. Generalized trial quantities are introduced as virtual adjustable sources in the equivalent representation of the structure. The microwave effective index, attenuation constant and characteristic impedance as functions of frequency are computed. The effect of thickness of the buffer layer on the microwave effective index is also investigated. The obtained results are compared with data furnished by the literature. A good accuracy is obtained.
