Abstract
Network monitoring is today not only a process to merely gather information about the network status but also the basic step of further important activities of resource management and optimisation. Many network management processes start from the knowledge of the most up to date load status, and the measurement precision is of uttermost importance for an effective reaction. This paper presents a monitoring system that exploits the advanced features of a novel network architecture with native support of QoS. The monitoring system is able to activate passive measurement processes and to gather real time data concerning the whole path or single links thanks to specific functionality provided by each router, with high precision, reasonable waiting time and acceptable overhead.
