Abstract :
It is a great trend for the academic circle to make investigation on CEO comensation from the persepctive of managerial discretion. This paper makes a review on the literature referring to the effect of managerial discretion on CEO compensation. Based on the concepts definition of managerial discretion and CEO compensation, the thorough investigation on the literature reveals that, (1) Managerial discretion has a positive effect on CEO pay level, (2) There is an unclear effect of managerial discretion on CEO pay-performance sensitivity, and (3) There is a positive effect of managerial discretion on managerial pay gap. In the end, the paper makes detailed comments on the existing literature and further provides further research expectation.
