Abstract :
Since instant messaging service consists of various services such as text and multimedia data with different session arrival and service time distribution characteristics, we need to consider this to analyze the energy consumption of instant messaging service. In this paper, we propose an improved energy saving scheme for instant messaging service with two different inactivity timer values depending on two different service classes and compare the performance of the proposed scheme with conventional scheme with the same inactivity timer values with different service classes. From the results, it is shown that the proposed scheme can outperform the conventional scheme for most of inactivity timer values, with an appropriate selection of inactivity timer values.
