Abstract :
Describes work in progress on the following two projects: intelligent robot control using an integrated H∞/adaptive controller in a two degrees-of-freedom configuration; and the application of H∞ optimal control to the design of a wide-envelope full authority active control system for a generic high performance single main rotor helicopter. Both projects are in the early stages of development but the results so far are encouraging with the advanced multivariable control methods used pointing to significant benefits over more conventional techniques. The authors demonstrate the power and flexibility of MATLAB as well as illustrating the potential of H∞ techniques
