Abstract :
Presents a modified approach for design of decentralized load frequency controller (LFC) for multiarea interconnected power systems. The approach utilizes the eigenvalue dynamics to identify the `most effective´ state-feedback structure of the decentralized controller of the local area to achieve certain stability region. The identification process utilizes the sensitivity of the system eigenvalues for the feedback gains. A new eigenmode analysis are presented that relates the sensitivity of a certain eigenmode with its controllability and observability. The method is illustrated with a simple two-area LFC system, and the time response of the designed controller is compared with the optimal response
