The fundamental performance of an automated surveillance system is governed to a large extent by the quality of its sensors of which the receivers form the critical parts. The paper briefly describes the requirement for an ESM receiver and its role in an automated ESM system. It then details the design of a particular receiver using advanced RF design and high performance digital signal processing
