Abstract
Details the design of a prototype HF band (0.1 to 32 MHz) receiver which incorporates digital signal processing (DSP) to perform many of the signal conditioning, filtering and demodulation functions traditionally associated with analogue components. The electrical design of the receiver has been optimised throughout to match the constraints imposed by currently available analogue to digital converters (ADC). Maximum exploitation of digital signal processing techniques has been employed to simplify, where possible, the electrical design of the analogue components. The performance of the prototype receiver has been evaluated and, when compared with that of an existing analogue receiver, shows that no loss of performance is incurred by the incorporation of DSP
