Abstract :
The fractal theory is one of the most important tools to determine the coastline character. Fractal interpolation, as a new method to deal with coastline character, can be used to create prospective scene image based on a series data of the characteristics of the scene. The relative definitions and theorems of the fractal interpolation function are introduced briefly about how to deduce the fractal simulation image, the fractal dimension and length of scene curve. Taking Tianjin coastline as an example, by applying SuperMap GIS software, the control points in the map are used to establish the fractal simulation image of coastline, calculate the fractal dimension of coastline, implement fractal dimension with formula of fractal interpolation function, the length of the coastline through the sorted points set of fractal interpolation function created by iterative. The results show that the fractal simulated image, the fractal dimension and length of coastline can be acquired by applying fractal interpolation function.
