Abstract :
This paper presents a comparison of the results of performing lossless data compression on individual signals with the results of performing lossless data compression on the signals generated by separating the individual signals into multiple frequency bands. The lossless data compression on each signal or on each signal subband is performed using linear predictive coding combined with arithmetic coding of the residual signals. The comparison includes both computer time required and resulting compression ratios, and is accompanied by an energy distribution analysis of the eight seismic signals used in the analysis
