Abstract
Lossless compression of signals is of interest in a wide variety of fields such as geophysics, telemetry, nondestructive evaluation and medical imaging, where vast amounts of data must be transmitted or stored, and exact recovery of the original data is required. Nearly all lossless signal coding techniques consist of a decorrelation stage followed by an entropy coding stage. In this paper, fundamentals of lossless signal coding are introduced, and a wide variety of decorrelation and entropy coding techniques are discussed
