Abstract :
It is pointed out that, while a network management system (NMS) is becoming an integral part of many terrestrial wide-area networks, specific issues of NMS design for mobile satellite systems (MSSs) have not been thoroughly examined in the literature. The authors present a comprehensive examination of these issues in relation to stated MSS functional requirements. A logical architecture for integrating NMS functionality is presented. The effective implementation of NMS requires the use of state-of-the-art technologies such as expert systems, object-oriented databases, and fault-tolerant processors
