Abstract :
Outlines some uses for the new and developing broadband communications capabilities, within a financial dealing environment. The paper is based on work developed under the European Commission´s RACE (Research and Development in Advanced Communications Technologies in Europe) programme, under project DIVIDEND. The heavy requirement of the financial dealing community for wide area communications in various forms leads to the need for complex, but flexible, networks. These networks will be required to handle computer data, text, document image and moving image as well as voice communications. Users have very limited space available, and no space for an extra terminal. This implies not only multimedia communications, but also multimedia devices. The initial view that video was the important application for broadband has been modified. Video is now seen to be as an important component in what is a multimedia environment
