Broadband communication management: the RACE TMN approach

The author provides an overview of the work and aspirations of the TMN group of projects in the CEC part funded RACE programme (research and development for advanced communication technologies in Europe). The author is chairman of Project GUIDELINE which has the task of providing the co-ordination framework for the definition of TMN for the proposed pan European integrated broadband communications network (IBCN). The author addresses three principle themes: the management and technical approach being adopted by the projects; the special network management functions demanded by IBCN; and a brief description of results to date
