  • Abstract
The authors review the options that have been identified for introducing broadband capabilities in telecommunication networks. They present ideas, concepts, proposals and results from the RACE Project R1044 IBCN Development and Implementation Strategies, and especially from the workpackage RCD (Reference Configuration Development) as provided n Deliverables three and four (1) and (2). Project R1044/RCD has first developed the IBCN Target Reference Configurations (RC) building on initial work performed by the CEPT Groupe Special des Communications a Large Bande-Permanent Nucleus. During 1989 Project R1044/RCD focused short and medium term RC. Proposals, allowing a smooth introduction of the IBCN have been analysed. The graceful evolution towards the target RC was of major concern
