Abstract
The paper presents a modem design to implement HF wideband data transmission based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). In order to reduce the multipath fading effect on the short wave channel, the design adopted OFDM, inband frequency diversity, and turbo code technologies. On condition that the intensive cochannel interference is suppressed, the modem can realize transmission at data rates of 8 kb/s, 16 kb/s and 32 kb/s on a 125 kHz bandwidth HF channel. The performance of this modem in a typical HF channel is also given by digital emulation.
