Abstract :
Considers the way in which Band I may be used. The expected interference environment is characterised, and estimates of the likely interference levels due to the different existing mechanisms are obtained. This leads to examination of the impact on the performance of possible radio systems. Strategies are presented which may render the systems insensitive to the fluctuations in interference. Attention is drawn to the areas of uncertainty requiring further effort. The most promising approaches to the use of this band are presented
