Abstract
A space-time searcher and a spatial frequency detector are presented by extending the code acquisition and the phase detector to the space-time domain. Based on the spatial frequency detector, a beam tracking algorithm is proposed. Then a scheme for a 2-D RAKE receiver is presented. In comparison with a conventional 2-D RAKE receiver, the scheme need not calculate the matrix inverse and perform DOA estimation by utilizing space-time searching and the beam tracking algorithm. So the scheme has the advantage of lower computation and is easier to be put into practice. Simulation results demonstrate that the beam tracking algorithm can efficiently track the direction of the desired signals and the performance degradation due to the sub-optimal beamformer is very little especially when the interference number is much more than the number of array elements
