Abstract :
Within Europe, the Digital European Cordless Telecommunications system, DECT, is currently being defined as a standard for cordless telephony and higher bit rate cordless nonvoice services. Working assumptions for the radio air interface have been refined over this past year, but many aspects of the specification, particularly relating to network and protocol issues remain to be defined. As part of work to support this standards definition, Plessey Research have constructed a computer model of the DECT system, based upon the current outline specifications. The model, developed initially to permit simulation of DECT in the office environment, with high subscriber densities and traffic demands, has permitted the system performance for different base station deployments and configurations to be evaluated in terms of quality of service (call blocking and curtailment) and traffic capacity (base station channel utilisation). The model has also permitted the evaluation of different protocol options
