SVHS-the development of an improved format

The author looks briefly at the developments applied to VHS leading up to the announcement of SVHS in 1987, before turning to the problems posed to the development team, given the brief to develop vastly superior performance whilst maintaining compatibility with the original system. He also looks at the solutions to these problems, covering various areas of technology in the video recorder and concentrating specifically on the tape formulation and on some new techniques applied to enhance the chrominance performance of the system
