Abstract :
A presentation was given at the Vehicular Technology Conference, 1991, which described and demonstrated how microcells can be integrated into cellular systems and the benefits that they will provide. Specifically, Southwestern Bell and AT&T demonstrated a microcellular system for operation at the VTC 1991 conference center in order to study and evaluate the solutions to some of the engineering challenges. The report presented discussed the following: engineering of a microcellular system in a macrocellular environment; operation of in-building microcells; microcell-to-microcell, microcell-to-macrocell, and macrocell-to-macrocell handoff in order to examine how microcells integrate into an existing cellular network; and frequency reuse in a microcellular system as a means to enhance cellular system capacities
